托福口說Task 5範例 (二) 其實托福Task 5 相對於Task 3 會在難一點，因為少了一段短文的蛛絲馬跡，所以考生必須從聽力中聽出主要問題之外，並且抓出該問題的解決方案，解決方案不一定是期中一人提出，有可能雙方都提出解決方法，至於談話者對於解決方法的否決理由也要找出，才有辦法回答問題內容，而且就這個部分尚需要補充自己的意見和理由。
(1) 聽力對話
Listen to a conversation between two students.
Man : Hey, Madison, what’s wrong?
Women : Oh, I’m just struggling about what to do ? I won an award from the Pacific Journalism Institute for an article I submitted, and…
Man : Doesn’t sound like anything’s wrong.
Women : Well, it’s a huge honor to win and there’s an award ceremony they’ve invited me to attend which I am super excited about. But, and here’s what’s frustrating, I’ve got a philosophy exam that scheduled to end right when the ceremony begins.
Man : Uh oh! You’re saying you’ll just be finishing up taking the exam right when the ceremony starts?
Women : Exactly!
Man : But those ceremonies never start on time, they give long introductions, you know, after a general speech or something before they ever get to handing out awards. I’m sure they won’t be ready to h and out your award right at the beginning. Just go when you’re done with the test. You won ’t miss anything important.
Women : Maybe, but that’s a bit risky. I don’t want to miss being there when they announce my name.
Man : Well, have you talked to your professor about this?
Women : Dr. Forester? No.
Man : Maybe she’ll let you take the test some other time.
Women : True. She lets people reschedule exams sometimes. But she always make them take it a couple of days early, that’ll mean less studying time for me which I’m not thrilled about.
Man : Less time to study, Oh!
Women : Like I said, I’m still struggling about what to do.
(2) 問題
The speakers discussed two possible solutions to the woman ’s problem. Briefly summarize the problem then state which of the solutions you recommend and explain why.
(3) 聽力關鍵
(1.1) Problem: woman needs to attend an award ceremony but it begins right after her philosophy exam
(1.2) Solution 1: go to the ceremony right after the exam
(1.2.1) Pro: she won’t miss anything important because they give out general introductions and speeches
(1.2.2) Con: there’s a risk that she might miss it when they announce her name
(1.3) Solution 2: reschedule her exam
(1.3.1) Pro: she won’t risk of being late for the award ceremony
(1.3.2) Con: the professor will make her take it a few days earlier. She will lose some studying time.
(2) 範文
The woman’s problem is that she wants to attend an award ceremony but she has a philosophy exam scheduled to end right when the ceremony begins. She faces two solutions, the first is to go to the ceremony after she finishes her exam, the second solution is to reschedule her exam. I think the first solution is better. First of all, award ceremonies never begin on time, they give general speech or introduction at the beginning of the ceremony, she won’t miss anything important by being late for a little while. Second, if she reschedules her test, it’s highly possible that the professor would make her take it a few days in advance, she will lose some studying time which can have a negative impact on her grade.
